What’s Up: Office-House Modifications and Used Equipment

A couple of weeks ago I put a video out on YouTube discussing what to do with used and surplus industrial automation equipment. I am not going to discuss this today, though I could certainly use some help dealing with it.
Instead I want to fill everyone in on my plans for the next little-while and current status of my office/house.
As I mentioned, I have to do something with all this stuff. I still don’t have an agreement with the owner, but have been given the green light to sell it. This involves organizing and inventorying all this fun old stuff.
Right now it’s just in the way, so I have decided to build a metal building, basically a garage, next to my office house.

This is where the project is today, the slab should be poured Tuesday (June 10, 2025).
I have owned this “office house” since 2020 when the pandemic/tornado events I have described elsewhere occurred. Since then I have epoxied my shop floor to make my fab area better, remodeled my training room and run power to the shed in back to use for woodworking. All this equipment landed in the middle of all of this, almost making it unusable for guests/customers.
It’s a pretty steep investment to build this 25′ x 26′ building, but I justify it by saying I will make something off of selling this equipment, and also get a lot of other things out of this house that need to be stored elsewhere.
The equipment itself is a topic for after I move everything into this building. I still need a firm agreement with the owner, but I think some of it will be sold and some of it can be used to build more cool training equipment. There are a bunch of PLC5 racks, SLC 5/04s, DeviceNet, ControlNet and Remote I/O components, pretty much all Allen-Bradley. Back in the day (1990s or so) this stuff was worth a LOT of money, but would never be used for modern installations. I am not even sure people would need it for trainers.
If you are interested in discussing any of the possible “opportunities” associated with this, leave a comment or send me an e-mail.
