Siemens Training and New Book

Back in February 2026 I taught a class in Illinois at a large plant. The company wanted a customized class covering TIA portal, troubleshooting techniques and programming concepts particular to their industry and plant.

I published a book in 2019 called Advanced PLC Hardware and Programming that covers both Allen-Bradley and Siemens, along with sections on programming structures like sequences, I/O treatment and faults. I used both this book and another I published in 2022 called Maintenance and Troubleshooting in Industrial Automation with sections on troubleshooting and other topics.

Even with these books, I still had to print several hundred more pages for students, which took time and cost a lot. When they asked me to do more classes I realized I needed to create a Siemens-specific book that contained this material. This saved a lot of time skipping around through the different material.

The new Siemens book, PLC Hardware and Programming – Siemens Platforms was published in May, and I taught the class in June. I still had to print a class outline and schedule, but it cost much less and made the class easier to manage.

If you are interested in the class outline, comment here or send me an email at flamb@automationllc.com.

I also plan to record some videos of the class exercise programming on YouTube. Stay tuned!
