A Long Journey – Part 2

Reality vs. Part 1

Well, the long journey is done and it didn’t look all that different from the AI picture in Part 1!

I left Nashville on April 8. It took 4 days to get to Ft. McMurray via Minot, North Dakota, Saskatoon Saskatchewan, and Edmonton, Alberta

I taught 4 consecutive Siemens Step 7 classes to CNRL workers at an oil sands mining operation about 70km (40 miles) from where I stayed.

The pictures above will give you an idea of the area. There was a blizzard while I was there, then the ice broke up on the Athabaska river near the end of my stay in early May.

I drove south on May 8 through Calgary and Fernie, BC on my way to meet my wife in Bozeman, MT. We visited Yellowstone and the Tetons before heading into Utah.

I took Mieko on a wild rockhounding trip in the western part of Utah before visiting Bryce Canyon, Zion and Arches National Parks. We visited Mesa Verde in Colorado, then Santa Fe, NM before returning home.

I love these work and play combination trips! That’s one of the cool things about working for myself. I put 8000 miles on my vehicle, but part of the bill was paid for by the customer. You can’t beat that!
