“Collaboration”

I get a lot of emails and other messages offering to “Collaborate”. Invariably the sender means “please pay me for my service”.

In many cases, what they really want is to have me offer their product or service to my customers. Without a prior positive experience with the product, this is very unlikely to happen. This means a better approach might be to tell me why I should try their offering rather than to use the word collaborate.

Collaboration means people or organizations working together to achieve a common goal. If you truly want to collaborate, start by describing the proposed goal. It will save both of us time and may receive a more positive response.
