What’s Up: My Shop and Equipment Storage

Equipment Storage

Well, the garage has been built and the equipment moved. I still need to inventory everything and do some water remediation, but I finally have space in my office!

My next goal is to get my office prepared for classes again.

Shop and Training Room

A couple of years ago I had my shop floor epoxied and moved my mini-mill from my garage at home to my shop. I also bought a Bambu 3D printer. I use these for building some of my training equipment. Recently I added various additional tools; a band saw, drill press, scroll saw, sander and more. I also filled some of the wall space with a couple of work stations.

I plan to create some more hands-on classes where students can build small factory simulations and wire them. This in combination with my PLC and microcontroller training classes will open a world of new options for students.

I love the idea of students being able to design their own curriculum. I have taught classes on Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff and Omron letting students select from a list of topics, I’d like to do something like that allowing students to build their own automation application or trainers, possibly using some of the used stuff.

Anyway, that’s where things are right now. This week I may be doing some work for HowToRobot, and next week I will be speaking at OT SCADA CON in Houston. After that I really need to get some work, either system integration or training. Hit me up if you need help with anything!
